A Bryce Material is the sum total of all textural, effects, and illumination properties combined within the Materials Editor. These Materials are stored in files called Lists; each List file ends with a ".shd" suffix. On your floppies, we included a basic list (called "Basic.shd") with a sampling of stone, water, terrain, and other types of textures. On the CDROM, in this very folder, we have included a number of alternate lists for your use.
To load an alternate list of Materials, go to the Materials Editor (see Manual for details) and click the "Open List" button. A dialog will ask you to find the list you wish to use. Simply find and select the list, and return to the Materials Editor. The preset Materials contained in the new list will be available to scroll through in the bottom left corner of the Materials Editor.
You may always begin your own list of Materials by clicking on the "New List" button in the Materials Editor. A dialog will prompt you to name your list file (we recommend following the convention "myList.shd" to differentiate the file from others); after you have done so, you can return to the Materials Editor and begin saving your Materials into the new list file.
